Board of Governors

The Governors are responsible for the overall running of the school and, as trustees of the charity, it is their job to ensure that all funds are used for the benefit of the pupils and the community. Each of the Governors has a close connection to the school. They support Daiglen in whatever way they can, by serving on committees, taking a particular interest in a nominated subject and attending events such as the summer fete, sports day, concerts and carol service.
 
Mr Terry Atkinson: (Chairman). Mr Atkinson was appointed Chairman this year, having served on the Board of Governors since 2005. Both his sons attended Daiglen. Mr Atkinson is an optometrist and a keen musician; he is the link governor for Music.

Mr Ray Allison is a retired chartered accountant who has served on the Board of Governors since 1986 and as Chairman from 1996 to 2010. He has worked for the Crusaders, a Christian Youth organisation, since 1974 and does a great deal of voluntary work for the community. He is a Daiglen Old Boy and is Governor responsible for Child Protection and link Governor for RE, History and Geography. He is also Chair of the Finance Committee.
 
Mrs Sue Barnes: Mrs Barnes became a Governor at Daiglen in 2003. She has two sons, both of whom attended Daiglen. Mrs Barnes is the Business Manager at a large state primary school in Redbridge and has a degree in School Business Management. She serves on the Finance Committee and Premises, Health and Safety as well as the Education Committee. She currently holds the position of Vice Chairman and her link subject is PSHCE.
 
Mrs Opal Brown: Mrs Brown is a former head teacher. She has worked in local schools including Bancrofts and St Aubyns and is currently an Early Years advisor. She came to know Daiglen when she was one of the Inspection team for our 2006 inspection. Her special interests are Able, Gifted and Talented provision and Special Educational Needs and she serves on the Education Committee.
 
Mr Clark Chessis: Mr Chessis came on to the Board in 2008. He is in the legal profession and serves on the Premises, Health and Safety Committee. All three of his sons attended Daiglen. He is link Governor for Maths.
 
Reverend June Colley. Having just retired, Rev. Colley was, for many years, our local pastor at St James’ Church where she still conducts our annual Carol Service. Rev. Colley also presides over our Harvest Festival and other assemblies. A former Head Teacher, her link subject is English.
  
Mr Phil Degen: Mr Degen has been a Governor of Daiglen since 2003. Mr Degen is Daiglen Old Boy and his twin sons also attended Daiglen. He is a director of Rothschilds Bank and is a member of the Finance Committee. Mr Degen coaches a local rugby team and is link Governor for sports.
 
Mrs Christine Doughty: Mrs Doughty taught Maths and Science at Daiglen for many years. She was a much respected Year 6 form teacher and Deputy Head, and also served as Acting Head in 2003 until Mrs Bradfield was appointed. Mrs Doughty is an ISI inspector, she serves on the Education Committee and is link Governor for Science.
 
Mrs Christina Fuller: Mrs Fuller has been a member of the Board since her youngest son left Daiglen in 1993. Mrs Fuller has a background in in banking and corporate finance and is very active in community and church-based groups and charitable organisations. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and is the link Governor for Modern Foreign Languages as well as Early Years. She is a member of the Education Committee and the Premises, Health and Safety Committee.
 
Mr John Wilson: Mr Wilson has a background in industrial relations; he is Chair of the Personnel Committee and also serves on the Finance Committee. He is the Chief Executive the Group of Trade Associations and was awarded an OBE. He is a Daiglen Old Boy and was Chair of the PTA during the time his son attended Daiglen School. Mr Wilson is also a Governor at the state secondary school where his wife teaches and his link subjects are ICT and Design Technology.
 
Mr Nic White: Mr White’s son was a pupil at Daiglen. He was invited on to the Board in 2009 and is Chair of the Premises, Health and Safety Committee. During this time he has overseen building works and improvements to the premises such as the new ICT suite and kitchens. His link subject is Art.
