Barnardos Care and Share fund raiser
|
|
In assembly on the 31st
of
January a lady from
Barnardos came to talk to
us. She talked to us about
what they did to help chil-
dren about our age. She
talked to us about a boy
called Sam and what his
life was like. Unfortunately
Sam’s dad didn’t live with
him anymore; Sam had a
younger brother and a
mum. The mum was very
ill so Sam had to do every-
thing his mum would usu-
ally do. If Sam’s mum was-
n’t feeling well Sam had to
get her changed, get her
|
bathed and all those
sorts of things.
Sam wasn’t doing very
well at school
because when he was
working all he could think
about was his mum and
that he needed to go to
the shops after school.
Sam also couldn’t do his
homework
because he had no time
at all and could never
have any help.
Now that Sam is with
Barnardos he is really
|
happy. A lady that
works at Barnardos
now does all of the
things Sam used to
do. When Sam is at
Barnardos he is
really happy and gets
to relax. He can bring
in his homework and
get help with it.
Barnardos can only
help in the UK, other-
wise I’m sure every
child in the world
would be happy.

Year 3 visit local Synagogue
|
On Tuesday the 1st
of February Year 3 went on a short trip to Chabad
Lubavitch to see a few Jewish objects, I am a Jewish person and I
know about a lot of Jewish artefacts. But the worst thing is walking to
the synagogue. It was a very tiring walk. When we all got to the syna-
gogue we put our coats on the chair we were sitting on. Many seconds
later we all went to meet Rabbi Brandman except Oscar because he
goes to the same Shul as the Rabbi but the one in Ilford. Then we
started looking at Jewish artefacts . In the class whoever had a Koppel
they would put them on to make them look Jewish . James wore a
blue and white Koppel and I wore a light brown Koppel . Before the
lesson began we all said good morning to the Rabbi. So now finally we
could start the interesting lesson. Now the Rabbi mentioned what it
was like being a Rabbi.

CHESS CHALLENGE
|
|
Recently, our school chess
club have been taking part in
a national chess challenge.
This is called ‘The British
Land Chess Challenge’.
There are seven rounds in the
tournament and the more
points you get the more things
you can win such as mascots,
badges and gold spots. At the
end whoever has the most
points will get a trophy.
|
It is an exciting experience
to play and to learn chess,
so be like us a buy a chess
board. Play with parents,
aunties or uncles and then
you’ll understand why we
are taking part in this chal-
lenge.

| ISA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT (YEAR 5 AND YEAR 6) |
|
On the 26th January
2001, 7 pupils took part
in the ISA North London
football tournament. The
team included myself
the Captain Lee
Cavanagh, Sam
Dowling, Harrison
Wright, Dylan Pitter, An-
thony David and super
saver Ben Sansom.
We had seven tough
matches ahead of us
against seven very good
teams. Our first match
ended in a 1-1 draw with
me hitting the bar four
times and Dylan saving
the day with a strike
from just outside the
area. Our second match
|
ended in a well deserved
2-2 draw with me smash-
ing two penalties to the top
right hand corner.
We then had lunch which
was one of the most
memorable times of our
day out. Harrison was
handing out chocolate bis-
cuits to keep our sugar lev-
els up, well I thought that
was what they were for.
In our match I dislocated
my thumb but I still carried
on fighting until the end.
The match ended with inju-
ries and also a 6-0 thrash-
ing by the opposing tea.
The next match was an-
other 2-2 draw with An-
thony hitting the net twice
|

and he rescued a draw
for the boys in purple.
The rest of our matches
were all draws and we
thoroughly enjoyed our
day out with each other
and Mr. French.

Three weeks ago year 4 had a football match. Oscar and
James played the year 4 football match against Chigwell
School. Oscar was very nervous because he had never
played for Daiglen against another team before. James
played in goal for Daiglen before the match, they played
penalty shootouts against James.
Oscar scored all his penalties in the practice. When the
match started, Oscar’s old friend Jordan Marcellis played
against them. When they ran forward with the ball, Elbert
ran and shot the ball towards the goal, but one Chigwell
player hand balled the ball. It was therefore, Daiglen’s
penalty. Oscar took the penalty and all of a sudden….. ‘
YEHHHHHHEEEE, Oscar scored!’ This was his first goal for
Daiglen.
Then Chigwell scored and Jordan Marcellis scored a shot in
the penalty area. In the second half, Jacob shot the ball to
Oscar. It was one on one with the goalie ………. Oscar
scored another goal! His dad was extremely pleased with
him. Five minutes before Oscar scored his second goal,
Chigwell scored their second goal. Then the whistle went.
The final score was 2 - 2.

FOREST SCHOOL SWIMMING GALA
Swimming is a sport I like and which Daiglen likes.
There were 8 teams at the swimming gala. Swim-
ming might not be Daiglen’s best sport but we tried
hard and competed well. The people in the swim-
ming team were Jud Rabey (Captain), Samuel
Dowling, Harry Wright, Lee Cavanagh, Teddy
Crossman, Zayn Akbar, Clark Pollins and Jordan
Austen (Sub). We all tried hard and wished the other
swimming teams good luck. The whole Junior
School, including me, are looking forward to the
Daiglen Swimming Gala.
