Music

“The learning of music, whether singing or playing, not only gives pleasure, satisfaction and a sense of achievement, but the discipline required also assists in raising standards of learning generally”.

Music
Music in school brings children into contact with performance, composing and listening. At The Daiglen School, we want children to experience the power and expressive qualities of music and to find satisfaction and fulfilment in both personal and group activities. Music is compulsory for all pupils throughout their school life here, extending the children’s awareness and understanding of sound as well as benefiting physical, social, intellectual, emotional and aesthetic areas of their growth.
All pupils have weekly music lessons with the specialist teacher and are given the opportunity to learn instruments including recorder, keyboard, guitar, piano and violin. Regular concerts are organised in the school and whole school dramatic productions and musical performances are arranged for parents. The school choir leads singing in assembly and performs for the public. Children perform regularly St James’ Church Hall at the Sir James Hawkey Hall on Speech Day. The choir also sing carols within the community at Christmas, both at The Queen’s Road Festival and for the elderly residents of a local nursing home. Music workshops with professional musicians are experienced annually.
