"Standards in the arts are high and pupils have gained many successes in this area." ISI Inspection September 2010
Daiglen School encourages enthusiasm in art through dynamic and interactive lessons based both within and outside the classroom. Diversity of subjects, materials, artists, art periods and venues ensure that children have as wide and inspiring experiences as possible.
Individual and original work is always encouraged and confidence-building by carefully controlled peer review is regularly undertaken. Children therefore learn to complete their own work at whatever level they can achieve and take pride in it as a unique piece of art, projecting part of themselves to the world.
The curriculum covers History of art, Art throughout the world, Famous artists and Fundamental Art skills (for example sketching, pastel work, 3D work, fine painting skills and perspective). Art is delivered to complement the Science curriculum and illustrative work may be scientific in nature. All Junior classes are taught by the specialist teacher in our purpose-built Art Room. Talent is nurtured and the very high standard achieved by all pupils can be seen in the quality of work displayed.
During the annual Arts Week whole school, cross-curricular and co-curricular activities focus on the Arts. Children participate in workshops with professional artists and visit some of the major galleries in order to make the subject come alive for them. Work is regularly entered for local competitions and exhibitions, and many pupils have won prizes, for example for a Christmas card design competition run by the local council.
